Bellwether: A Podcast of Speculative Journalism (ft. Sam Greenspan)

All podcasts, regardless of their format, are a creative endeavor. But some podcasts are just more complex. Enter, Bellwether, the latest offering from award winning podcast and radio producer, Sam Greenspan. Sam is the founding producer of 99 Percent Invisible and has a number of impressive credits to their name. The City from USA Today, the TED Radio Hour at NPR and Radiotopia’s Spacebridge to name a few. They’ve also lectured and taught radio and podcasting around the world. A Simple Herstory: Audio as Theater (ft. Jocelyn Kuritsky)

Here’s a common story. The 2020 pandemic come along and it seriously altered someone’s plans. Here’s a less common story. A theater actor and producer can’t put on live shows any longer so she teams up with a playwright to create a one of a kind podcast experience. Well, that’s exactly what Jocelyn Kuritsky did. The result? A Simple Herstory A Simple Herstory is described as a “a theatrical and high concept podcast series about the women who have run for President of the United States.” And it is quite theatrical indeed. 23 different actors (all women, by the way) connected via clean feed to create this comedy infused piece of audio drama based on real events. Jocelyn produced the podcast through her company, The Muse Project and for this episode of 3 Clips, she joined Evo to discuss what it’s like to bring in an existing creative skillset into a different medium. How to Start a War: Leveraging a Medium (Ft. Michael Trapani.)

How to Start a War: Leveraging a Medium (Ft. Michael Trapani.)

It took Michael Trapani six years to make How to Start a War. From meticulous research, immersive sound design, impeccable narration and poignant story writing, Michael masterfully leveraged the audio medium for this series. How to Start a War is a podcast about WW2. Most of us know how that story ended and that the Nazis lost. But the details of how it started, like the granular details, the conversations, the lies, betrayals…those aren’t as well known. Michael recreates this story from the point of view from the Nazis (with the clear stipulation that they are on the shortlist for the worst people who ever lived.) Using transcripts he re-enacts conversations. With sound design he creates atmosphere. And with narration, he guides us through a complex story that as it turns out, is quite poignant in our current time. LEARN MORE ABOUT CASTOS 3 Clips is a Castos Original Series.
