Show Notes

On this episode we are so excited to feature podcasting superstar (or as we say on the show, superhero!) Kristen Meinzer. And we’re breaking down By the Book—the hit show Kristen co-created and co-hosts with Joleta Greenberg—which is going into its eighth season!

Kristen brings her wealth of knowledge as someone who’s been in the industry for over a decade; who’s hosted, produced, and created numerous shows; and who’s written the must-read book for podcast creators: So You Want to Start a Podcast: Finding Your Voice, Telling Your Story, and Building a Community That Will Listen.

Host Jay Acunzo and Kristen get into many key topics, like why structure is a must, ways to connect with your audience, how to deal with listener criticism, and why you should focus on your show’s content instead of obsessing over your microphone—and more.

This is a great one, featuring one of the best in the business; you won’t want to miss it!

A Simple Herstory: Audio as Theater (ft. Jocelyn Kuritsky)

Here’s a common story. The 2020 pandemic come along and it seriously altered someone’s plans. Here’s a less common story. A theater actor and producer can’t put on live shows any longer so she teams up with a playwright to create a one of a kind podcast experience. Well, that’s exactly what Jocelyn Kuritsky did. The result? A Simple Herstory A Simple Herstory is described as a “a theatrical and high concept podcast series about the women who have run for President of the United States.” And it is quite theatrical indeed. 23 different actors (all women, by the way) connected via clean feed to create this comedy infused piece of audio drama based on real events. Jocelyn produced the podcast through her company, The Muse Project and for this episode of 3 Clips, she joined Evo to discuss what it’s like to bring in an existing creative skillset into a different medium. Making a Living in Podcasting (ft. Kinsey Grant and Josh Kaplan of Thinking is Cool)

3 Clips is a show about the craft of podcasting, and the passion behind that craft. But how do we translate that passion into income? On this special episode, business partners Kinsey Grant and Josh Kaplan help us answer this question. Kinsey is the host of Thinking is Cool, where she takes listeners deep into the key topics affecting their work and lives, to encourage us all to stop and think more critically about the nuances inside those ideas. She covers topics like drugs and why we do them, billionaires and whether they should exist, the concept of the girl boss, and the political system in the US and how we might fix it. Kinsey is also the Chief Content Officer of the startup that she co-founded, Smooth Operations and Creator Services, aka Smooth Ops. Josh Kaplan is the co-founder of Thinking is Cool and co-founder and CEO of Smooth Ops. He runs the business back end for Thinking is Cool, and works on revenue generating projects for independent creators, many of whom are podcasters too. In this episode of 3 Clips, Josh, Kinsey and Jay talk working relationships, going indie, the role of a journalist/host in podcast advertising, and more.  EXPLORE THE SHOW Visit 3clipspodcast.com for all episodes of the show.  LEARN MORE ABOUT 3 CLIPS HOST JAY ACUNZO Subscribe to his newsletter, explore his course for podcasters, or watch and listen to all of Jay’s shows and projects at jayacunzo.com  LEARN MORE ABOUT CASTOS 3 Clips is a Castos Original Series.
