Show Notes

On this episode we are so excited to feature podcasting superstar (or as we say on the show, superhero!) Kristen Meinzer. And we’re breaking down By the Book—the hit show Kristen co-created and co-hosts with Joleta Greenberg—which is going into its eighth season!

Kristen brings her wealth of knowledge as someone who’s been in the industry for over a decade; who’s hosted, produced, and created numerous shows; and who’s written the must-read book for podcast creators: So You Want to Start a Podcast: Finding Your Voice, Telling Your Story, and Building a Community That Will Listen.

Host Jay Acunzo and Kristen get into many key topics, like why structure is a must, ways to connect with your audience, how to deal with listener criticism, and why you should focus on your show’s content instead of obsessing over your microphone—and more.

This is a great one, featuring one of the best in the business; you won’t want to miss it!

How to Start a War: Leveraging a Medium (Ft. Michael Trapani.)

It took Michael Trapani six years to make How to Start a War. From meticulous research, immersive sound design, impeccable narration and poignant story writing, Michael masterfully leveraged the audio medium for this series. How to Start a War is a podcast about WW2. Most of us know how that story ended and that the Nazis lost. But the details of how it started, like the granular details, the conversations, the lies, betrayals…those aren’t as well known. Michael recreates this story from the point of view from the Nazis (with the clear stipulation that they are on the shortlist for the worst people who ever lived.) Using transcripts he re-enacts conversations. With sound design he creates atmosphere. And with narration, he guides us through a complex story that as it turns out, is quite poignant in our current time. LEARN MORE ABOUT CASTOS 3 Clips is a Castos Original Series. Sound Design & Music Composition (ft. Sam Riddell & Joel Roston)

This special episode explores sound design and music composition with guests Sam Riddell and Joel Roston. Among many other projects and roles, Sam is the sound designer of In Those Genes (and she was featured with that show’s host, Dr. Janina Jeff, in a previous 3 Clips episode). Joel is a musician and composer who creates music for podcasts, film, and video. He’s co-owner of Titlecard Music & Sound, a music library and custom composition company for creators.  In this episode, Sam and Joel break down clips of their own work, as well as a clip from host Jay. Sound design and music are powerful tools, but challenging for many podcasters. Sam and Joel discuss how to start doing this work on your own as well as how to work with professionals like themselves to get the results you’re after. They also talk about how they approach their own work.  EXPLORE THE SHOW Visit http://3clipspodcast.com for all episodes of the show.  LEARN MORE ABOUT JAY Subscribe to his newsletter, explore his course for podcasters, or watch and listen to all of Jay’s shows and projects at http://jayacunzo.com  LEARN MORE ABOUT CASTOS 3 Clips is a Castos Original Series.
