Show Notes

This episode features Jenna Spinelle, co-host and lead interviewer for the show Democracy Works. Produced by the McCourtney Institute for Democracy at Penn State and WPSU Penn State, this show seeks to answer questions about what it means to live in a democracy: they get into the structure and history behind this foundational framework.

Jenna shares her experiences and insights into bringing dense academic materials and conversations to life for an audience that includes academics and nonacademics alike. Her co-hosts are academics as are many of her guests. Her role, as she sees it, is largely about being a bridge builder between the academy and the general public. Along the way, she helps others cross this divide as well.

This is an excellent episode for any creative who aims to bring complicated ideas to a wider audience.

Nice Try!: With Breadth Comes Depth (ft. Avery Trufelman.)

For connoisseurs of podcasts Avery Trufelman shouldn’t need much of an introduction. She’s worked on popular shows like 99% Invisible and it’s successful spinoff, Articles of Interest. More recently she teamed up with Vox and Curbed to create Nice Try! In season one of this investigative series, Avery explored failed attempts at creating Utopias. For season two titled Interior she turned her attention to the home. Each episode dissects the history and the stories of household appliances and the role they play in our attempt to turn our homes into our own little fiefdoms. She joined Evo to discuss the making of Season 2 Episode 1 titled The Doorbell. Sow how does someone make an entire episode about a doorbell? Well, with breadth comes depth. Dan Cable Presents: Show... Don't Tell (ft. Dan Cable)

The long-form interview has become a staple in podcasting. Some of the most popular podcasts in the world feature what, on the surface, seems like a pretty simple format. However to do this well isn’t always simple and it’s important to find little ways to distinguish interview podcasts and the best podcast interviewers know how to do this. Over the course of 300 episodes and counting, Dan Cable Presents has made small tweaks to the production process that make these interviews stand out. Dan Cables Presents is hosted by Dan Cable, a musician living in Portland, Oregon. Each show features an interview with a musician, usually one from the Pacific Northwest. But rather than just record a long conversation with a guest, Dan intersperses bits of the artist’s music so the audience can hear the music for themselves. Show…Don’t tell. He joins the show to chat with Evo about how his show has evolved over the course of several years and 300 plus episodes. LEARN MORE ABOUT CASTOS 3 Clips is a Castos Original Series.
