Show Notes

This special episode explores sound design and music composition with guests Sam Riddell and Joel Roston. Among many other projects and roles, Sam is the sound designer of In Those Genes (and she was featured with that show’s host, Dr. Janina Jeff, in a previous 3 Clips episode). Joel is a musician and composer who creates music for podcasts, film, and video. He’s co-owner of Titlecard Music & Sound, a music library and custom composition company for creators.

In this episode, Sam and Joel break down clips of their own work, as well as a clip from host Jay. Sound design and music are powerful tools, but challenging for many podcasters. Sam and Joel discuss how to start doing this work on your own as well as how to work with professionals like themselves to get the results you’re after. They also talk about how they approach their own work.

Talking Too Loud (and Thinking Deeply About Podcasting, with Chris Savage & Sylvie Lubow)

On this episode of 3 Clips, we learn how Chris and Sylvie worked to remove the barrier between who you are, and who's coming through on the microphone - and techniques to get your guests to do the same. Jay, Sylvie and Chris also discuss following your curiosity as an interviewer and why audio, compared to video, can be liberating. Wistia (as you may know if you listen to this show often) is a software company focused on video and podcasting marketing, analytics, and audience growth. Talking Too Loud is a show about entrepreneurship that doesn’t simply have founders stop by to talk about their success stories. Instead, it focuses on the tough problems behind building a business that have no black-and-white answers -- the gray, the nuance, the messiness.SUBSCRIBE TO JAY'S NEWSLETTER: Every week in Playing Favorites, Jay Acunzo shares a new idea or story exclusive to subscribers about making things that make a difference. Trailer: Podcasters Dissect Their Best Work (A Different Kind of Podcast About Podcasting)

On 3 Clips, we believe "Creativity" doesn't mean "BIG." Instead, creating great things requires a lot of small, hidden choices and moments. Each episode of the show, we bring those smaller things into the light to examine them: the tiny production techniques, the tough decisions, the highs and lows that go into making anything special. While we have a focus on serving makers and marketers who use their shows to support their brands, we venture far outside the marketing world to talk to some of the best minds in podcasting. You'll hear from producers and hosts who have decades of experience, and serial side project creators making their first podcasts. Each episode, we break down 1 show through 3 clips, and some other segments, too. It's all in the name of helping you return to work and make your audience's favorite podcast.Don't Forget to Join Playing Favorites:Join host Jay Acunzo's weekly newsletter, Playing Favorites, to get every new episode via email, plus one weekly idea written to you each Friday morning, all about making more resonant, more creative content.
