Show Notes

SHOW NOTES:

Louis Grenier is a marketing consultant whose stated mission is to “fight marketing bullshit,” which he does with his company Everyone Hates Marketers, and a podcast by the same name.

After three years and 200 interview-style podcast episodes, Louis realized he was forgetting who his guests were even five episodes ago. So in March 2021, he decided to refresh himself, and his show.

New episodes are shorter, in monologue format, and focus around one marketing lesson, rather than on a guest. In these episodes, Grenier re-packages clips from his past interview episodes and cites examples from books and other sources. It really works for the listener, even if you never heard the original interviews. And it’s working for Louis, as a way to showcase his own marketing know-how. Among other topics, Louis and Jay discuss developing a personal brand and host persona, and how to make your podcast stand out in a crowded field.

Trailer: Podcasters Dissect Their Best Work (A Different Kind of Podcast About Podcasting)

On 3 Clips, we believe "Creativity" doesn't mean "BIG." Instead, creating great things requires a lot of small, hidden choices and moments. Each episode of the show, we bring those smaller things into the light to examine them: the tiny production techniques, the tough decisions, the highs and lows that go into making anything special. While we have a focus on serving makers and marketers who use their shows to support their brands, we venture far outside the marketing world to talk to some of the best minds in podcasting. You'll hear from producers and hosts who have decades of experience, and serial side project creators making their first podcasts. Each episode, we break down 1 show through 3 clips, and some other segments, too. It's all in the name of helping you return to work and make your audience's favorite podcast.Don't Forget to Join Playing Favorites:Join host Jay Acunzo's weekly newsletter, Playing Favorites, to get every new episode via email, plus one weekly idea written to you each Friday morning, all about making more resonant, more creative content. A Simple Herstory: Audio as Theater (ft. Jocelyn Kuritsky)

Here’s a common story. The 2020 pandemic come along and it seriously altered someone’s plans. Here’s a less common story. A theater actor and producer can’t put on live shows any longer so she teams up with a playwright to create a one of a kind podcast experience. Well, that’s exactly what Jocelyn Kuritsky did. The result? A Simple Herstory A Simple Herstory is described as a “a theatrical and high concept podcast series about the women who have run for President of the United States.” And it is quite theatrical indeed. 23 different actors (all women, by the way) connected via clean feed to create this comedy infused piece of audio drama based on real events. Jocelyn produced the podcast through her company, The Muse Project and for this episode of 3 Clips, she joined Evo to discuss what it’s like to bring in an existing creative skillset into a different medium. Drilled: Rigorous Audio Journalism (ft. Amy Westervelt)

Amy Westervelt is a print and audio journalist and environmentalist; she founded the podcast network Critical Frequency, which raises up important but often overlooked voices; and she is the executive producer and host of the critically acclaimed show Drilled. The through line here is that Amy has an enduring interest in telling stories that are getting covered up, and doing the hard work of figuring out what’s really going on. Jay and Amy discuss the rigorous and thorough process involved in creating a show like Drilled, which focuses on stories that investigate propaganda in the fossil fuel industry. And they get into why audio is a powerful medium for the stories Amy chooses to cover on the podcast.
