Show Notes

Jay is on paternity leave (so cute! https://www.instagram.com/p/CPYK1-NjEr6/), and we the producers – Andrea Muraskin and Cherie Turner – are taking the reins this time. Since we joined the show in fall 2020, we’ve both learned so much about podcasting from our brilliant guests. So with Jay awash in diapers and drool, we’re both sharing three “nuggets” of wisdom from the archive that shine particularly brightly for each of us – in the form of clips, of course!

Creative Hotline: Hidden Elements of a Call-In Show (ft. Allen Gannett)

When marketing experts and buddies Allen Gannett and Shane Snow decided to do a show together, they looked out over the podcast landscape and saw a wasteland of sameness – sooo many interview shows with business leaders and authors about how they achieved success. So after some research, they decided to serve their market in a different way: they made Creative Hotline, a call-in advice show about creativity. In this episode of 3 Clips, Jay talks with co-host Allen Gannett about the big and small decisions that go into making this unique show, from pitching to a network to writing a Drake trivia quiz. Plus: relatability, playing character, “performer voice,” and more.  EXPLORE THE SHOW Visit http://3clipspodcast.com for all episodes of the show.  LEARN MORE ABOUT JAY Subscribe to his newsletter, explore his course for podcasters, or watch and listen to all of Jay’s shows and projects at http://jayacunzo.com  LEARN MORE ABOUT CASTOS 3 Clips is a Castos Original Series. How to Start a War: Leveraging a Medium (Ft. Michael Trapani.)

It took Michael Trapani six years to make How to Start a War. From meticulous research, immersive sound design, impeccable narration and poignant story writing, Michael masterfully leveraged the audio medium for this series. How to Start a War is a podcast about WW2. Most of us know how that story ended and that the Nazis lost. But the details of how it started, like the granular details, the conversations, the lies, betrayals…those aren’t as well known. Michael recreates this story from the point of view from the Nazis (with the clear stipulation that they are on the shortlist for the worst people who ever lived.) Using transcripts he re-enacts conversations. With sound design he creates atmosphere. And with narration, he guides us through a complex story that as it turns out, is quite poignant in our current time. LEARN MORE ABOUT CASTOS 3 Clips is a Castos Original Series.
